Skiing holidays in 2021 will still be fun

There is still a lot of uncertainty about what will happen this winter for skiing holidays in 2021.

We have followed the French Government advice and are ready to receive skiers and snowboarders whenever you are ready to come. We were open during the summer and the systems we introduced were not intrusive but simply help to keep you safe.

Safe ski resorts

We do know that, along with every other ski resort in France, Oz and Alpe d’Huez have made the best possible arrangements to keep everyone as safe as possible on their skiing holidays in 2021.

Alpe d’Huez Snow Report for October

Alpe d'Huez Snow Forecast

We are happy to say that the Alpe d’Huez snow report for October is good. The early season snow continues to build on the higher slopes with new, fresh falls lower down.

The weather is getting chilly with midday temperatures in Alpe d’Huez around 0°C.

There is 20 to 35 cm of snow forecast above 1800m and 10 to 15cm around 1400 to1500m.

This is falling on an already better than average base for this time of year. It is between 30 and 70cm at altitude and you would have to go back to 2013 or 2000 to find equivalent October depths.

Lets hope this signals an excellent year for snow.

New Clos Giraud Lift

The new Clos Giraud lift is progressing well in the Oz-Vaujany sector.

Another new lift project this year to go with the new Eau d’Olle express between Allemond and Oz.

The old four-seat chair will be replaced by a Téléporté mixte, chairs and gondolas on the same cable, sometimes referred to as a Chondola in English.

The other Téléporté mixtes are on Signal, Les Jeux and Rif-Nel.

Allemont Lift is making Progress

Progress in Allemont

The Allemont lift is making progress towards completion later this summer.

The lower installations are well on their way with the familiar shape of a lift taking place. The buildings in Allemont will be the largest part of the construction with the Car Park and ticket office.

There will also be the hangar for storing the gondolas out of season.

Elsewhere, the concrete is being poured for the bases of the pylons. This has needed a helicopter to deliver the wet concrete for pouring as the terrain is too steep for any vehicles.

The pylons themselves are being delivered at the base of the dam and will also be assembled with the help of the helicopter.

It will be interesting to see how the extra car parking affects the Car Parking in Oz.
